Abstract

507,035. Electric batteries. HARTMAN, M. Oct. 7, 1938, No. 29107. [Class 53] A paste electrolyre for accumulators is made by adding to silicie hydrate, containing approximately 86 per cent of water. sufficient concentrated sulphuric acid to produce a paste containing 30À32 per cent by weight of sulphuric acid. The paste is then allowed to swell or ripen during which process more 30-32 per cent sulphuric acid may be added. The ripening may be accelerated by the passage of a weak electric current and terminated by the addition of magnesium sulphate and/or heating to 60-90‹ C. In order to diminish selfdischarge of the finished cell about 0-1 per cent of beryllium sulphate may be added during or after the ripening process.
