[Class 22] Materials of great hardness and electrical resistance are prepared by mixing 85-50 parts by weight of a pure, alkali-free, non-fused alumina, with 17-57 parts of pure hydrated kaolin, and, if desired, a little aluminium hydroxide, and burning the mixture at temperatures between 1700‹ and 1800‹ C., after shaping it to form articles such as insulators, ball mills, grinding balls, mortars, nozzles, heating tubes, crucibles and pyrometer tubes.
