Abstract
505,615. Cutting thistles &c. CRAWFORD, A., CRAWFORD, D. R., and BARSBY, R. Aug. 18, 1938, No. 24328. [Class 6 (iii)] A thistle or like weed cutting appliance of the type in which the weeds are cut by a non-rotary blade or blades which is or are drawn over the ground has the blade or blades mounted upon part of the appliance for pivotal adjustment thereon so that the height of the cutting edge may be adjusted. The flat blades 1 are carried on runners 3 which at their rear ends are attached to brackets 9 having vertical lugs provided with studs or pivots 11 adapted to turn in blocks or columns 5 between which a transverse spacing or stay bar 2 extends. A wing nut 13 serves to clamp the pivot after the blade has been turned about it to the desired angle. An abutment is provided to determine the lowest position to which the knife edge may be turned. At the forward end each blade is secured to a bracket 18 pivoted on angle members 20, 22 by a rod 19. The angle members are secured by studs to the front frame of the appliance. After the bracket 18 has been swung to its desired position it is clampod tightly to the angle members by a wing nut 23 on the pivot rod 19. The clamping means may be fitted to the rear end of the blades only. Specification 505,614 is referred to.
