Abstract
505,496. Destructive hydrogenation ; extracting oils. JOHNSON, G. W. (I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.) Nov. 8, 1937, No. 30646. [Classes 32 and 91] , In the destructive hydrogenation or pressure extraction of solid carbonaceous materials with solvents while flowing the reacting materials through a tower-like reaction vessel fromwhich the main portion of the products is removed into an adjacent hot separator, a portion of the reacting materials is removed from the lower part of the reaction space before the end of the reaction and the reaction products, after leaving the separator, are freed from solid constituents. The process is applicable to the limited hydrogenation of carbonaceous materials in which at most 5 per cent hydrogen is consumed in the reaction. Brown coal is( dried with 3 per cent Bayer Mass (the dried red sludge obtained in the disintegration of sludge according to the Bayer process) and pasted with " run. back oil " and " separator sludge " obtained in the process. It is then pumped from the mixer 2 with hydrogen from a pipe 5 through a preheater 6, where it is heated to 455‹ C. and passed tangentially into, a reactor 8 provided with a stirrer 9, the reacting material flowing upwardly and being drawn off through a line 13 to a hot separator 14 maintained at 430‹ C. 11 per cent of the reacting materials are drawn off continuously from a collector 10 through a line 11 to a low temperature carbonization vessel where they are carbonized together with ash &c. residues withdrawn from the centrifuge 30. Vapours withdrawn from the hot separator 14 are cooled in a condenser 19 and passed to a cold separator 21 from which gases are taken off through line 22. The condensate is fractionally distilled in a tower 25 into benzine withdrawn through line 26, diesel oil withdrawn through line 27, and heavy oil, which together with heavy residues from the separator, is passed to the centrifuge 30. Distillate recovered from the retort 32 is recycled to dilute the residues from the vessel 14 while the centrifuged oil is recycled as " run back oil through line 35, and the " separator sludge through line 29 to the pasting vessel 1. Specification. 340,811 is referred to.
