Abstract
505,440. Glass manufacture; weighing- apparatus; antomatic control systems; switches. WOOD, J: T. Nov. 9, 1937, No. 30744. [Class 56] [Also in Groups XVIII, ' XXXV, and XXXVII] In a device for feeding glass in gobs to a machine from a forehearth &c. the temperature of the glass is controlled by apparatus for weighing the gobs or the articles made from them. In one arrangement, Fig. 3, the valves such as 4 for controlling the feeding plunger (not shown) in accordance with the weight of the gobs or articles as described in Specification 500,807, are provided with pawls or racks for driving threaded spindles such as 25 stepby-step. In due course a nut 26 on the spindle operates a switch 28 to drive motors 37, 38 controlling the burners or dampers in the appropriate direction. The nut also operates means whereby the spindle and nut are restored to normal by fluid pressure means. Alternatively the spindle may be driven by the solenoids controlled by the valves or by a motor. Similar apparatus is providedfor control by the other valve. In a modification, the switch 28 is actuated by a cam on a shaft driven by a valve such as 4 or by a solenoid. In a further modification, Fig. 6, the weighing device controls driving solenoids 68 of step-by-step switches which complete the heat-increasing and heat-decreasing circuits after a pre-determined number of steps.
