Abstract

505,381. Heat-measuring devices for testing soils. REINAU, E. H. Nov. 15, 1938, No. 32860/37. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Oct. 17, 1938.] [Class 97 (iii)] A device for ascertaining the kinds and quantities of nutritious substances to be added to soils to be cultivated comprises a heat-insulated vessel for receiving the soil samples provided with temperature measuring means and so constructed that an air circulation permitting the soil to breathe is possible, but drying of the soil during the experiment is prevented. The testing vessel may comprise a vacuum flask 10 of known construction adapted to contain the soil sample 12. The flask is closed with a soft rubber cap 13 which is provided at its centre with X- cuts which form flaps 16 to support a thermometer 17. The cap 13 is also provided with holes 15. The thermometer 17 is pointed at its lower end to facilitate its introduction into the soil sample.
