Abstract

505,229. Shaping belts &c. by pressure. MARTI, J. M. Dec. 29, 1937, No. 35994. [Class 109] [Also in Groups VIII and IV] Endless elastic driving belts consisting of a skein of rubber threads encased in woven tubular fabric are impregnated with rubber latex by immersion in a bath in which they are alternately stretched and slackened, this motion being continued after removal from the bath, and are then submitted after drying to pressure while under tension by rolling between pressing plates one of which is stationary while the other oscillates, and are finally vulcanized. The belts mounted on tensioning rolls 45, 46, 47, Fig. 5, are pressed and smoothed by plates 39, 42, Fig. 7, under the action of springs 59, 60. The lower plate 39 is oscillated by a rod 44 and the belt is guided by forks 52 which are moved to and fro by racks 56, 57 and pinions 54. Each section of the belt is rolled in turn, a fresh section being automatically brought under the pressing plate by a spring-urged revolution of roll 45, the circumference of which is equal to the width of the pressing plate, the upper plate 39 meanwhile being raised by a projection 62 on a shaft 49. Means are provided for stopping the machine and lighting an electric bulb when the belt has been completely pressed.
