Abstract

504,656. Optical sound - recording. WESTERN ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. (Electrical Research Products, Inc.) Dec. 17, 1937, No. 34968. [Class 40 (ii)] Relates to methods of producing " noiseless " double-hump sound-records. Accordng to the invention, a double-hump track is formed by passing the recording light beam through a single triangular aperture 7 in a screen 6 on to an oscillograph mirror 3 by which it is reflected on to a slit 11, the mirror being vibrated about an axis at right. angles to the direction of travel of the film so as to cause the triangular beam to vibrate transversely with respect to the slit ; and a central envelope trace b, Fig. 1, is produced by means of a wedge-shaped mask 15 which is caused to project into the central portion of the beam to an extent varying with the intensity of the sound. Specifications 444,015 and 498,394 are referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 422,543.
