Abstract
504,645. Dry shavers. WILKINSON SWORD CO., Ltd., RANDOLPH, H. B., and MATHISEN, A. Nov. 19, 1937, No. 31866. [Class 131] A laminated shearing member for a dry shaver comprises a plurality of wafer stampings 30 having teeth 31 and apertures 32 whereby they are threaded on a bar 33. The relatively soft stampings are subsequently hardened and ground. The teeth on alternate wafers are oppositely directed so that two rows of staggered teeth separated by a trough are provided on the shearing member. These teeth co-operate with inclined teeth 45, 46 on a reciprocating, spring-pressed, U-shaped cutter 36 actuated by _ an electromagnet 4 through an armature 57 on a vibratory spring 56, the vibratory system being tuned to vibrate naturally at the same period as the alternating current energizing the winding 5. A rubber flange 65 excludes hair clippings from the space below casing ridge 64. Guard lips 68, 69 are formed on the two-part casing 2, 3 which is held together by a slotted stud 21 and by a spring 27 and screw cap 25. In a modification, the electromagnet has two legs with an energized winding on each leg, and the spring 56 is bent so as to engage centrally the reciprocating cutter and to serve also as the spring for pressing it against the shearing-member. Only one row of teeth may be provided, adjacent shearing elements being spaced by thin washers. Specification 495,378 is referred to.
