Abstract
504,576. Moulding and wrapping tablets. FORGROVE MACHINERY CO., Ltd., GREGORY, H. E., TURNER, R., HENKEL, A. A., and THURLINGS, H. Dec. 8, 1937, Neo. 33964. [Class 87 (ii)] Apparatus for moulding and wrapping tablets of candy &c. comprises a chain C havingmould cavities which shape the underside of the tablets from a rope of plastic stock and convey the tablets to a wrapping station where they are delivered directly to the wrapping mechanism. The rope of stock is fed by rollers 10 between the chain C and a moulding wheel 11 which contains a number of mould cavities closed at their sides by dies 28, Fig. 5. The dies are mounted on sliding rods 29 which are guided by fixed rods 33 and are reciprocated by projections 30 engaging fixed cam surfaces. At the moulding point the dies are forced further inwards by rollers 37 engaging the ends of the rods 29. Springs may be provided urging the rods outwards. The moulded tablets comprise discs 38 standing on edge in the cavities in the chain and connected by thin strips of material. The chain C passes over sprockets' 12, 13 each of which together with the wheel 11 ia positively driven by gearing from the shaft 14. The chain C carries the tablets under a tube 40 having a longitudinal slot in its underside through which cold air is blown on to the tablets, to cool them. At the wrapping station B the tablets 38 are pushed out of the mould cavities in the chain as they commence to open by a plunger 64 which is reciprocated by a crank 45 and constrained by a linkage 50, 53 to move in the curved path D. The tablets are held down by a plate 61 which contains a slot through which the narrow neck of the plunger 64 can pass. A stop is provided to contact the tablets at the end of the chain. The plunger 64 pushes the tablets together with a piece of paper 56 into the pocket 55A of a wrapping wheel of known form. Instead of feeding the tablets to the wrapping mechanism they may be deflected down a shoot 67 as shown in Fig. 9. Guides 68, 69 are provided each side of the chain C and a portion 70 of one is mounted to pivot about a horizontal axis 72. A portion 73 of the other guide pivots about a vertical axis 74 so as to push the tablets out of the mould cavities. The moulding wheel 11 may be replaced by a moulding chain.
