Abstract

503,662. Stoning fruit. FROVA, G. May 25, 1938, Nos. 15664, and 15665. Convention dates, June 3, 1937 and Oct. 27, 1937. [Class 28 (ii)] Relates to improvements in the fruit-stoning' machine described in Specification 402,270. The holes 1 in the plate 33 which holds back the fruit when the stoning-tool is retracted, are made of large size, and are covered on the side facing the plungers 52, by small plates 5 having substantially triangular apertures 11 and having notches 6, 7 which loosely engage pins 3, 4 diametrically disposed relatively to the holes 1, so that limited rocking motion of the plates 5 in their own plane, due to a stone 16 being out of centre as shown in Fig. 2, is permitted. The plates are retained in position by heads 4<1> on the pins 4 and a channel member 9 at the top of the plates 33, 5. Resilient members 8, e.g., rubber pins or coiled springs, are interposed between the plates. The edges of the apertures 11 are chan.fered. The plungers 52 are formed with chamfered extensions 42, arranged peripherally around the operative end which pentrate into and centre the fruits. The jaws of the stoning-tool operate in the spaces between the extensions 42, and their disposition relatively to the aperture 11 is shown at 13 .. 15, Fig. 2. The cam 26 for effecting the opening and closing of the jaws is shown in Fig. 8. The arc I of the cam effects a partial closing of the jaws to permit their passage through the stone-retaining and fruitretaining cross-plates. The arc II effects a complete closing around the stone followed by a rapid snap-opening caused by the depression 47 in the arc III. The jaws have cutting-edges on the outer sides of their ends, the snapopening thus producing radial cute in the fruit, which subsequently extend during the extraction of the stone. The arc IV keeps the jaws closed during the extraction of the stone and the arc V effects a gradual opening to permit the stone-retaining plate to remove the stone from the jaws.
