Abstract

503,449. Anti - - dazzle devices for vehicles. ROSSI, E. March 15, 1938, No. 8049. Convention' date, March 15, 1937. [Class 103 (ii)] In vehicle anti-dazzle devices comprising a slotted element or disc movable between the driver and the source of dazzling light, the element, its driving motor and moans for controlling its operation are mounted on a support arranged so that the element can be moved to an inoperative position out of the driver's line of vision. The element may be constructed of pliable material in the form of a fan or, formed of a plurality of sectors to enable it to be collapsed in the inoperative position. The width of the slots may be adjustable. In one form, Fig. 5, an element comprising sectors 7 is mounted on the spindle of an electric motor 17 carried by an arm 10, integral with a pivoted disc 12 and adapted to be moved to the dotted position or vice versa by a flexible cable 14 actuated from the dashboard, the motor circuit being closed or opened simultaneously. An adjustable stop (not shown) is provided to limit movement of the arm. The sectors are mounted one behind the other on the spindle, one sector being fixed to the swindle, and each sector is constructed with a tooth adapted to engage'tho adjacent sector after a given rotation so that when the motor is started the sectors will be opened out. When the motor is stopped an electromagnet 22 is actuated to retain one of the sectors upon which the others come to rest. Alternatively mechanical means are provided to collapse the sectors. As shown in Fig. 7, a rod 25 is carried by the arm 10 and is provided with a projection 28 adapted to engage a pin 21 to retain one of the sectors. When the arm 10 is moved upwardly, the rod 25 is moved against the action of a spring 26<1> by a projection 24 on a disc 23. The element may take the form of a pair of slotted discs which are relatively movable to vary the width of the slots.
