Abstract

503,222. Colour photography. TATE, F. R. (Colortone Corporation) Sept. 2, 1937, No. 24039. [Class 97 (i)] In a light-dividing system for colour photography, comprising a compound prism block 11 having two internal semi-reflecting surfaces 17, 18, and laterally-disposed reflecting-prisms 15, 13 receiving the rays reflected by the surfaces 17, 18 respectively, so that the system produces three parallel beams of emergent rays the surfaces 17, 18, and the reflecting surfaces 13a, 15a of the prisms 13, 15, are inclined to the axis of the system at such angles, less than 44‹ 58<1>, that all rays in each convergent cone of light from any point in a field of view whose image is obtained, are incident upon the surfaces 13a, 15a at angles greater than the critical angles of total reflection for the glass used. The inclinations of these surfaces depend on the maximum angle of the said cone of rays and may be as little as 36‹ for rays whose angle of incidence on the surface 10 is as much as 15‹. The lateral rays pass through glass blocks 14, 16 to ensure that all three images are co-planar. Filters 22, 23, 24 are provided on the exit surfaces of the system. To prevent the passage of unwanted rays, the system may be provided with screens 25, 26, 27, 29, 30, 31.
