[Class 100 (iii)] Distributing matrices.-In machines having a number of magazines and a fount distinguisher or distributer automatically adjustable in accordance with the magazine in operative position, the setting of the automatic adjusting means is controlled by a replaceable element of prearranged form identified with the font contained in the associated magazine. In the arrangement described, the machine has a shiftable column of four magazines A, A<1>, A<2>, A<3>, Fig. 1, and two distributers D, E adapted to deliver matrices to any selected pair of magazines, the upper distributer being associated with the lower magazine. The matrices X have in their lower edges notches X<1>, which are differently located in the different founts, and co-operate with an adjustabte rail or bridge d in the upper distributer-box D<3>. Matrices devoid of notches in the position of the bridge are supported at a higher level and engage the upper distributer-bar D<1>, whilst matrices having a notch in register with the bridge fall into a shoot E<4> leading to the lower distributer. The bridge d is adjusted in accordance with the magazines in use by a lever F, which is positioned by one of three abutments H, H<1>, H<2> mounted in a bracket H<4> secured to the shift-frame. The abutments are spring-loaded, and are adapted to slide into recesses H<6>, Fig. 2, in the bracket. Above each abutment is placed a matrix X from the upper fount of each pair, the matrices being held in position by side-plates H<8>. A ridge h<3>, Fig. 4, on each abutment is caused to engage in the notch in the foot of the matrix with which it 'is associated, whereby the abutments are located in position to adjust the bridge d to the correct position for the pair of magazines in use.
