Abstract
502,862. Vapour burners; stoves. BELL, I. Sept. 22, 1937, No. 25716. [Classes 75 (i) and 126] The heat generated at a vapour burner is regulated by raising or lowering the fuel reservoir which is movable in a circular path in such a manner that in its initial movement from its maximum height downwards its distance from the burner does not increase. Fig. 3 shows an oil reservoir A and burner B rigidly secured to an oil pipe C mounted by a pivoted bracket F on a stand I. By means of a chain or rope G<3> passing over a hand operated gear wheel or pulley G the height of the reservoir above the burner can be adjusted. A cooking ring D slidable on the stand is maintained at a suitable distance above the burner by a rope G<4>. The pulley G may be formed with a series of holes engaged by a spring-pressed plunger on the stand I to hold it in the adjusted position. The preheating burner B<1> has an inclined side B<3> to enable it to be used in a sloping position. Additional fuel pressure may be obtained by pumping air into the reservoir A. The reservoir may be fitted with a gauze strainer and an oil filter may be provided at the burner end of the pipe C. A contracted passage below the burner prevents fluctuations in the oil flow. Fig. 6 shows burners mounted on cranked oil pipes C', C<2> passing through the rear of the stove and connected by pipes C to the fuel-reservoirs A. The reservoirs may be raised and lowered by ropes G<3> secured to extensions of the pipes C and pulleys G operated by handles G<6>. Fig. 12 shows reservoirs A swivelling parallel to the front of the stove about joints D<3> connected by pipes D4 to the burners B. The reservoirs are operated by pulleys G and ropes G<3> against the resistance of springs D<6>. In another construction the reservoirs are movable in planes at right-angles to the front of the stove and means are provided for operating them together or separately by a single handle and for securing them in the adjusted position. Fig. 17 shows another construction in which a reservoir A is supported by a telescopic rod B<10> and is connected by a flexible pipe C<6> to a rigid pipe D<4> leading to the burners. Channelled guide members A<9> attached to the rigid pipe D<4> support the flexible pipe C<6>. Fig. 18 shows another construction in which the rigid pipe C and reservoir A are pivoted in curved members J<5> suspended from a ceiling eye K<10>. After adjustment by the rope G<4> the burner B and cooking ring D may be turned to the horizontal position and secured by a thumb screw engaging a stay M<7>. An air chamber M<2> may be conmected to the pipe C to steady the fuel flow. When fitted in a glasshouse the pipe carrying the fuel reservoir may be arranged outside the building. Two or more burners may be fed from the same reservoir and stop cocks may be provided to shut off the fuel supply to unwanted burners.
