Abstract

502,726. Fluid-pressure servomotorcontrol systems ; valves. VAU, J. B. P. Aug. 17, 1937, No. 22536. Convention date, Aug. 18, 1936. [Class 135] [Also in Groups XXXI and XXXIV] According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 a pedal 1, Fig. 7 (Cancelled), is connected to a lever 40 pivoted at 41 and connected by links 42, 44 to the throttle valve 2 and brake shaft 3. The valve casing 47 is formed with surfaces p-q, r-s concentric with the valve spindle so that while the pedal is moving in the braking range I-II the throttle remains closed but opens in the range II-III. In the construction shown in Fig. 8 (Cancelled), the pedal 1 controls a fluid pressure servomotor 54 which rocks an arm 51 connected by lost-motion linkages 40, 50 and 67, 68 to the throttle 2 and brake-shaft 3, the lost motions providing the necessary separation between the throttle and brake actuation. An arm 62 connected to the pedal 1 slides a valve rod 56 in the hollow rod 52 of a piston'53 so aa to control ports 59 in the rod 52. The piston 53 is normally forced downwards by a spring 55 and rocks the arm 51. Inlet and outlet ports 57, 58 are formed in the cylinder 54 for the working fluid. In the position shown the ports 59 are open and fluid circulates freely through the cylinder. If the valve rod 56 is raised the ports 59 are closed, pressure builds up. under the piston, and the piston is raised following up the rod 56 until the ports are open again and a new position of equilibrium obtained. The servo-motor is such that there is no reaction on the pedal. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
