Abstract

502,706. Automatic tuning correction. COLE, Ltd., E. K., MARTIN, A. W., and HUNT, H. Nov. 8, 1937, No. 30548. [Class 40 (v)] An automatic tuning correction system comprises a valve VI acting as a variable resist. ance to vary the current through an inductance 3 in dependence on a control voltage derived from a known discriminator network 7, the coil 3 being coupled to a second coil in the circuit whose frequency is to be controlled so as to vary the effective inductance of the second coil, the arrangement being such that the valve V1 also operates as a low frequency amplifier, deriving its low-frequency input over condenser 10 the output passing over condenser 11. The resistance 9 maintains the cathode potential of VI substantially constant despite variations in impedance of the valve. The valve V1 is preferably a multi-grid valve the coil 3 being connected in circuit with one of the grids other than the control grid while the L.F. output is taken from the anode circuit ; this prevents low-frequency signals from affecting the A.F.C. action, Fig. 2 (not shown). Or the control valve may form the hexode portion of a triodehexode, the triode section being the local oscillator of the receiver.
