Abstract

501,966. Television. BLUMLEIN, A. D., and SPENCER, R. E. June 7, 1937, No. 15728. [Class 40 (iii)] A foreground is scanned against a whiter-than white surface to produce signals 4 ; the whioerthan-white signals 6 are isolated by an amplitude filter 8 and controlling pulses 19, 21 are developed therefrom, to control the foreground amplifier 20 and an independent background amplifier 22 which is fed with background signals 7 produced by independently scanning a background ; the outputs of the amplifiers 20, 22 are combined at 25 so that the reproduced picture has the foreground and back. ground combined. The isolated signals 28 are applied to a delay network 9 to produce pulses 10 which are combined at 11 to produce pulses 27 and limited at 12 producing pulses 13 longer than the original pulses 28 and delayed in inception. The pulses 13 control the production of pulses 19, 21 which are superposed on the signals 4, 7. The delay in inception of pulses 19, 21 corresponds to the delayed introduced in the amplifiers 15, 17, 20 and 16, 18, 22. The pulses 19, have longer black than white peaks so that they overlap the whiter-thanwhite peaks 6. Limiters 23, 24 cut-off the displaced portions of the signals 4, 7 and the outputs are compounded at 25. The D.C. components should be present at each limiting or mixing stage. According to the Provisional Specification, the signals injected at 1, 2 need not be foreground and background scenes and the output 26 may reconstitute a picture composed of sections of each of the original scenes. Change-over from one scene to another may be produced by variation of the controlling pulses 19, 21. The control pulses 19, 21 may be obtained by scanning a black-and-white surface. Specifications 417,282, 455,785, and 482,740 are referred to.
