Abstract

501,614. Partly electromagnetic switches. AVERY, Ltd., W. & T., and BINNS, A. Sept. 30, 1937, No. 26441. [Class 38 (v)] Downward movement of a weighing or other mechanism 17 moves the arm 12c of a lever 12 away from a roller 11 on a lever 5, whereupon the lever 5 and a mercury switch 4 carried by it tilt about an axis 6 under the action of gravity and the mercury switch completes a circuit to an electric motor fox driving the totalizing apparatus of the weighing apparatus. The circuit also includes an electromagnet 9 which tries to pull back the lever 5 to its original position but this movement is prevented by the arm 13b of a lever 13 which has moved into locking position above the roller 11. Only when the weighing mechanism 17 moves upwards is the lever 13 actuated so as to release the lever 5 and allow the parts to return to their normal position.
