501,019. Moulding buttons, handles, &c. CALAMAND, C. V. Aug. 18, 1937, No. 22653. Convention date, Aug. 20, 1936. [Class 87 (ii)] Articles comprising a core and ar outer casing are moulded by com pressing strips or pieces of wood, saw dust, &c. with or without an agglutinant, round a rod, handle, or haft in a mould similar in shape to the article to form a core, and moulding under pressure an outer casing around the entire core. The article may be a button, door handle, umbrella handle, tool handle, &c. The metal haft 4 is placed in the mould between two strips 3 which are pressed to take the shape of the mould. The core thus formed is placed in a second mould in which the casing material 9 is distributed in the form of powder, plates, pieces, &c. and the whole is subjected to pressure in the hot or cold state to form the article. When the casing material is of small thickness the two moulding operations can be performed in the same mould and the casing material may, in this case, be introduced before the core material and the two moulded together. The casing may also be moulded by injection. The haft 4 may be corrugated or provided with enlargements or projections so as to unite it firmly with the core material.
