Abstract
500,128. Artificial filaments. BRITISH CELANESE, Ltd. Aug. 14, 1937, No. 22407. Convention date, Aug. 14, 1936. Addition tu 499,965 and 499,966. [Class 2 (ii)] In the method of producing artificial filaments of varying denier according to the parent Specifications the abrupt change in the length of the path of the filaments between the point of extrusion in the spinning cabinet 1 and the drawing means 3 is effected by means of a fluid pressure operated motor. In the apparatus shown the movable filament guides 7 are reciprocated by a compressed air motor 37 so as alternately to lengthen the path of the filaments at a steady rate and to produce an abrupt decrease in the length of the path. The supply of compressed air to the motor is controlled by a valve 34 operated by a multilift cam 25 which is driven through speed reducing mechanism from the feed roll 3. The cam may be so contoured as to produce regular or irregular changes in denier. The guides 7 are mounted on rods 8 vertically reciprocating in bearings 9 and connected by rods 12 to a cranked shaft 13 driven from the motor 37.
