Abstract

499,842. Inserting chaplets in pattern plates. DETLEFSEN, G. C. July 26, 1937, No. 21777 /38. Divided out of 494,922. [Class 83 (i)] Apparatus for inserting chaplets in pattern plates for moulding comprises mechanical means for feeding individual chaplets to their receiving holes in a pattern plate and for positioning the chaplets in the holes. The chaplets which may be of wire bent to form a shank and a circular head, are separated and fed to magazines 17 by apparatus described in Specification 494,922. A reciprocating plate 26, Figs. 5 and 6, having an opening 27 and projecting finger 60 and curved away from the magazine 17 at its upper end, allows the chaplets to fall, one at a time, into a recess 31. The chaplets assume an upright position in this recess with the heads uppermost and a small air-operated hammer 38 pushes them into the receiving hole 36 in the pattern plate 37. The recess 31 and guiding portion 35 for the chaplet stem are formed by slidable halves 32, 33 which are moved apart at the end of a positioning operation to enable the positioning device to be withdrawn without disturbing the chaplets.
