Abstract

A preserving or disinfecting composition comprises an active preservative or disinfectant of aromatic character, other than benzene, together with an emulsifying and wetting agent consisting of a condensation product, of the type described in Specification 493,442, formed from a succinic acid anhydride containing in one methylene group a substituent having at least 5 carbon atoms, and a tertiary amino compound containing, in addition to the tertiary amino group, a hydroxyl or primary or secondary amino group which is capable of forming a functional derivative with one of the acid carboxyl groups. Preservatives and disinfectants specified are phenol, tri- and tetra-chlor phenols, chlorinated cresols and xylenols, hydroxybenzoic acids and naphthalene. According to examples: (1) a solution of trichlorophenol in the condensation product of iso - pentadecenyl - succinic acid anhydride with triethanol-amine is used for preserving glue; (2) monochlor-xylenol and naphthalene dissolved in iso-nonenyl-succinic acid-mono-b -N-diethylaminoethylamide is used for preserving starch, gums and the like; (3) an aqueous solution of monochloro-cresol, isooctadecenyl-succinic acid - mono - b - N - diethylamino-ethyl ester, and poly-glycol ether is added to a salt pickle for preserving skins. Other condensation products are those prepared from iso-nonenyl, iso- or n-dodecenyl succinic acid anhydrides, or from the addition products of mono-, di- or tri-isopropyl benzene or iso-propyl naphthalene to maleic anhydride, with tertiary amino compounds such as diethyl-amino-ethyl alcohol, b -N-hydroxyethyl-morpholine, N.N - diethylethylene - diamine, and N.N.N1 - triethylethylene - diamine. The Provisional Specification is not limited to the use of aromatic substances as the active preservatives or disinfectants, but contains no additional examples.ALSO:A preserving or disinfecting composition comprises an active preservative or disinfectant of aromatic character, other than benzene, together with an emulsifying and wetting agent consisting of a condensation product, of the type described in Specification 493,442, [Group IV], formed from a succinic acid anhydride containing in one methylene group a substituent having at least 5 carbon atoms, and a tertiary amino compound containing, in addition to the tertiary amino group, a hydroxyl or primary or secondary amino group which is capable of forming a functional derivative with one of the acid carboxyl groups. Preservatives and disinfectants specified are phenol, tri- and tetrachlor phenols, chlorinated cresols and xylenols, hydroxybenzoic acids and naphthalene. According to examples: (1) a solution of trichlorophenol in the condensation product of iso-pentadecenyl-succinic acid anhydride with triethanolamine is used for preserving glue; (2) monochlor-xylenol and naphthalene dissolved in iso-nonenyl-succinic acid-mono-b - N - diethylamino - ethylamide is used for preserving starch, gums and the like; (3) an aqueous solution of monochloro-cresol, isooctadecenyl - succinic acid-mono-b -N-diethyl - amino-ethyl ester, and poly-glycol ether is added to a salt pickle for preserving skins. Other condensation produces are those prepared from iso-nonenyl, iso- or n-dodecenyl succinic acid anhydrides, or from the addition products of mono-, di- or tri-isopropyl benzene or iso-propyl naphthalene to maleic anhydride, with tertiary amino compounds such as diethylamino-ethyl alcohol, b -N-hydroxyethylmorpholine, N.N-diethylethylene-diamine, and N.N.N1-triethylethylene-diamine. The Provisional Specification is not limited to the use of aromatic substances as the active preservatives or disinfectants but contains no additional examples.
