Abstract

Water - insoluble dyes are prepared on vegetable fibres by impregnating them with 2-(21.31-hydroxynaphthoylamino)-naphthalene and coupling with a diazo compound of an amine of the general formula <FORM:0498534/IV/1> wherein X is hydrogen or a monovalent substituent not containing a solubilizing group. In the example, boiled cotton yarn is treated with a solution of the coupling component in caustic soda lye containing turkey red oil and formaldehyde and developed, while wet, with diazotized 1-methoxy-2-aminobenzene-4-sulphonic acid n-butylamide. Other specified diazo components are 1-methyl-, 1-chloro-, 1-phenoxy-, or 1-(41-chlorophenoxy)-2-aminobenzene-4-sulphonic acid n-butylamide and aniline-3-sulphonic acid n-butylamide. The dyeings are bright red. Specifications 235,169, 279,146, [both in Class 15 (ii)], and 425,839 are referred to.
