Abstract
<PICT:0497941/III/1> <PICT:0497941/III/2> <PICT:0497941/III/3> A process of lining a large metal container with a protective coating, consists in coating the interior surface with a thermoplastic heat-hardening material and then hardening the coating by passing into the container a continuous supply of hot air which subsequently escapes from the container, said air being introduced through a distributing device so arranged that the whole coated surface of the container is uniformly heated. The inner surface of the container may be cleaned and sand-blasted before the coating operation. Apparatus for carrying out the process is shown, comprising a furnace 11 and fan 12 delivering hot air to the interior of the tank 6 which has been lined with a thermoplastic heat-hardening material 7, and the conduit 14 is provided with discharge branches 15, 16 for equalizing the distribution of the hot air throughout the tank. A sectional heat-insulating blanket 8 may be arranged around the tank and thermometers or pyrometers 9 may be provided. When the metal lower portion 33 of a tank, having an upper portion 32 of wood, is to be lined, a temporary partition 38, carrying insulatin material 39, may be inserted.
