Abstract

497,363. Loom take-up motions. TEFAG TEXTIL-FINANZ AKT.-GES. June 18, 1937, No. 16972. Convention date, Aug. 1, 1936. [Class 142 (ii)] [Also in Group XVI] A web-feeding device which is especially applicable to the take-up motion of a loom is constructed with means for adjusting the speed of take-up comprising two feed gears each adjustable in steps to vary the feed and so interconnected that their effects may be added or subtracted, the arrangement being such that the complete range of adjustment of the fine feed corresponds approximately to one step in the adjustment of the coarse feed. The two feeds, Fig. 1, are operated by oscillating levers 5, 6 operated by cranks 1, 2 rotating in opposite directions the levers being fitted with pawls 7, 8 which actuate ratchet wheels 9, 10. The wheel 10 has a shaft 12 which drives a wheel 16 through a free-wheel clutch, and the wheel 16 is geared to a wheel 14 for operating the web feed device. The wheel 9 is geared directly to the wheel 16 and effects the fine adjustment of the feed. The actual adjustments of both the fine and coarse feeds are obtained by adjusting the point of connection of the connecting-rods 3, 4 with the levers 5, 6 by operating screws 5<1>, 6<1>, which cause the pivots 17, 18 to move in slots in the levers and thus vary the throw of the pawls 7, 8. In a modification the adjustment of the fine feed is obtained by varying the phase of the cranks 1, 2 in order to vary the effective length of the stroke of the lever 5. If this lever is in exact phase with the lever 6 it has no effect on the feed. In a further modification, Figs. 4 and 5, a pair of concentric ratchet wheels 47, 48 are operated by adjustable crank-and-lever mechanism 32, 33, 34, 35, 36, 41, 42 by means of which throws of variable lengths are given to levers 43, 44 with pawls 45, 46 for operating the ratchet wheels 47, 48. These levers and pawls may be arranged to rotate the wheels 47, 48 in opposite directions, so that the fine feed may be subtracted from the coarse feed. The wheels 47, 48 are connected to the feed shaft 50 by planetary gearing comprising two pairs of planet wheels 49 carried from the disc 47 by stub axles 59 and engaging a wheel 51 fixed to the shaft 50 and a wheel 52 rigid with the disc 48. The adjustment of the feed may be effected by hand, or the fine adjustment device may be controlled automatically by a governor, or by an arm 57 controlled by the diameter of the cloth beam.
