Abstract

497,260. Drilling and riveting. FRANKFURTER MASCHINENBAU - AKT. - GES. VORM. POKORNY & WITTEKIND. May 14, 1937, No. 13730. Convention date, May 20, 1936. [Classes 83 (iii) and 83 (iv)] An automatic drilling and riveting machine comprises a worktable 3, Fig.. 1, fed intermittently, a drilling and countersinking tool 13, 14, Fig. 3, arranged above the work 1 and a riveting hammer arranged below with its axis in alignment with that of the drilling &c., tool, means for feeding rivets 10 mounted at one side of the drill and adapted to be swung into position over a drilled hole, a, counter-support 11 for the hammer adapted to be swung into position from the other side of the drilling &c. tool and a vertically movable clamping device surrounding the hammer which grips the work during riveting. After a hole is drilled and countersunk in the work by a combined drilling and countersinking tool 13, 14, fed by an air-operated piston carrying the drilling head 7, feed being limited by a stop 16, compressed air is delivered through a pipe 23 connected to the clamping sleeve to blow the cuttings which collect on the upper face of the riveting hammer through an opposite opening 19 in the sleeve. A further compressed air pipe 17 is also used to remove cuttings. The feeding means comprising a magazine 8 and shoot q is then swung into position over the drilled hole and a rivet pushed into position by means of a collar 16, Fig. 1, on the drill spindle. The feeding means is then retracted and the countersupport 11 swung into position. The sleeve 12 moves up under the work to grip the latter and the hammer 18 is then operated by compressed air to form the rivet head.
