Abstract

Dental prosthesis base-plates are made from a paste comprising a polyvinyl acetal, opacifying agents, e.g. titanium oxide, and colouring matter, e.g. cadmium seleniosulphide. The acetal may be prepared from formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, mixtures thereof, propionaldehyde, butyraldehyde and its isomers, or crotonaldehyde. There may also be added: synthetic resins, e.g. phenol- or urea-formaldehyde or glycerine-phthalic anhydride, resins, particularly polymerizable resins; plasticizers, e.g. alkyl-toluene sulphonamides; mould lubricants, e.g. waxes, paraffins, metal salts of higher fatty acids; solvents; and stabilizers. In an example, a paste comprises polyvinyl acetal prepared according to example 2 of Specification 409,507, titanium oxide, cadmium seleniosulphide, the glycol formal described in Specification 481,951, ethyleneglycol monomethyl ether, and ethyl alcohol.
