Abstract

496,499. Lining tubes with bitumen. SOC. ANON. STABILIMENTI DI DALMINE. June 4, 1937, Nos. 15578, 15579, and 15580. Convention dates, June 25, 1936, Sept. 11, 1936, and Feb. 24, 1937. [Class 87 (ii)] In lining a metal tube A with bitumen, the tube is moved longitudinally as the bitumen is introduced from the end of a fixed tubular distributer C extending from a reservoir D, the bitumen is heated in its passage through the distributer, and the tube A is rotated during or after the deposit of bitumen to distribute it centrifugally. The tube A is mounted on rollers M on a longitudinally-movable carriage B. The distributer initially extends through the whole length of the tube A and is heated by steam, or electricity, or both ; it may comprise three coaxial tubes, the outer two being provided with stiffening ribs and forming spaces for the circulation of steam. The tubes are spaced by apertured diaphragms which may be of insulating material such that an electric current can be passed through the tubes for heating. In another form, the distributer comprises two coaxial tubes separated by a packing of refractory material and heated by electricity. With this form the tube A is rotated after the bitumen is deposited. The reservoir is provided with a steam heating coil and is subjected to air pressure to deliver the bitumen.
