[Class 144 (i)] [Also in Group XXV] An annular core for use as reinforcement for a circumferential edging, particularly a tyre-bead wire, is covered with a fabric strip which is fed longitudinally on to said core from outside the plane of the annulus. In the apparatus shown, a bead ring 75 is tensioned between two grooved pulleys 1, 2, the former of which may be moved vertically along a standard 16 by a handwheel 16a, to accommodate rings of different sizes, and the latter being driven by an electric motor. The fabric 76 passes from a supply roller 39, over festoon rollers 31, 30, 40, and then between rollers 36, 37, to a horizontal table 22 arranged at an angle with respect to the plane of the pulleys 1, 2. The end of the table is furnished with a roller 5 provided with a circumferential groove 66 which initiates the folding-over of the edges of the fabric strip, as shown in Fig. 2, when the fabric passes over the roller 5 into contact with the bead wire. The partially folded fabric strip passes around the pulley 2 and then through a former 6 which completes the shaping of the strip. After passing over the pulley 1, the end of the fabric strip engages with a spring-loaded pivoted member 45 which is thereby disengaged from a member 51 to break an electric circuit and stop the machine. The requisite length of fabric to complete the covering of the wire is then cut off by means of hand or mechanically operated shears 25, which latter may be arranged to operate a clutch in the transmission system between the driven shaft 7 of the roller 2 and the rollers 39, 31, 30, 40, 36. The machine is restarted to complete the folding of the fabric strip around the bead wire by depressing a foot pedal. The machine may be stopped to permit the severing of the correct length of fabric strip, by the end of the latter, after passing over the pulley 1, interrupting the light beam of a photo-electric cell control device. Strips of rubber or the like for incorporation in the bead structure may be supplied from rollers 41, 34, 35.
