[Class 132 (ii)] [Also in Group XIV] A games table bordered by cushioning means is provided across one end with an horizontal ball-engaging abutment spaced above the table so that the ball may project beyond the edge to permit the player to project it along the table with the palm of his hand. As shown in Fig. 1, a board 1 of laminated wood, slate or sheet metal covered with cloth has cushions 9 of coiled tension springs along three boundaries arranged at a height slightly greater than the radius of the ball 11. An additional set of spring cushions 9 may be arranged at a height slightly less than the radius of the ball. At one end, a similar spring 10 is situated nearly as high as the ball so as to permit the ball to overhang the edge of the board where it may be struck by the palm of the hand. By placing the balls against the spring 10 a variety of strokes may be made in playing a game. To prevent the ball passing under the spring 10, a ledge 12 which may be rubber or felt, is secured to the edge of the board below the spring. The coiled springs are secured to upstanding portions of pocket bars 6. The pocket nets 4 have leather bases 20 which may be pushed up to eject the balls. The table may be supported on screwed feet for adjusting the level, or alternatively on compression springs 19, Fig. 7, encircling bolts 16 which pass freely through a supporting frame 17 and are adjusted by means of nuts 18. At the end of the table remote from the spring 10, a shelf may be provided for the erection of a scoring board.
