1389975 Billiard game; mallets E M FRIERMAN 16 March 1973 [17 March 1972] 12674/73 Headings A6D and A6H A billiard game is played upon a floor mounted playing surface with the aid of mallets. Players may stand upon the surface whilst making their shots. The surface 17 is mounted on a concrete substructure and has an upstanding rim 21 defining pockets 23. The pockets 23 are linked by runways (not shown) to a ball collection trough 27. A baulk line 29 is marked upon the board as well as spotting marks (not shown) for placing a spotting rack 15. Resilient ball-deflecting cushions (35) surround the surface and are mounted upon the rim 21. A partition member (43) spanning from pocket 23C to pocket 23H may be employed to divide the surface. A Spotting rack (Fig. 4) has a plurality of troughs in which parallel rows of balls 13 are laid. The trough side members 26 are shifted upwardly and sidewardly by a rod 32 to drop the balls 13 upon the playing surface 17. A Mallet (Fig. 10) has an aluminium tubular stock 65 in which a steel head 47 is telescopically held by rubber washers 71. The head 47 has a striking face 49 covered with a resilient material for protecting balls that are hit and a smaller striking space 53 formed on a resilient member 51 (which has an aiming edge 55). The mallet head sides 56 may also be flat for ball striking and, in order that "spin" can be applied to a ball a removable spin peg (61-not shown) is provided to fit upon the underside of the resilient member 51.
