494,297. Road kerbs. POCHIN, C. D., BARRS, E., and MACNAB, J. April 20, 1937, No 11222. [Class 107] Reflectors are arranged in a straight line along a kerb or other edging of a road at distances apart substantially 75 dy/x feet, where d is the diameter of the reflector in inches, x the width of the roadway in feet, and y the ratio of the apparent diameter of the reflector due to halation to its actual diameter. Further, the reflectors are so arranged that a beam of light from the headlamp of a car can pass from the outer edge of each reflector to the next adjacent reflector, in order to give the effect to the driver of a continuous band of light along the kerb. As shown in Fig. 1, reflectors A are mounted in a groove in a kerb 4 and are illuminated by the headlamps 1 of a car 2. The groove may be continuous or a series of grooves may be provided. The reflectors may be disposed at right-angles to the line of kerb or at an angle normal to the beam from the headlight. In a modification, Fig. 11, auxiliary reflecting surfaces 22 are disposed on either side of the main reflectors 21. Instead of mounting the reflectors in a kerb, they may be secured to posts with their edges at or adjacent to those vertical edges of the posts which are nearest the roadway.
