[Classes 20 (ii), 20 (iv), and 87 (i)] The adjacent edges of metal, asbestos-cement or like roofing and wall sheets are inclined to the general plane of the sheets and fitted with a joint-cover strip, and each of the fixing-bolts for the sheets carries a clamping-plate, the sides of which are inclined similarly to the inclination of the edges of the sheets and, when the bolt is in its fixing position, effect a wedging action between the sides of the cover strip and the edges of the sheet. The cover strip may be formed separate from the sheets, or it may be formed integrally with one or both sheets at the joint. The sheet shown in Fig. 7 is provided with inclined flanges f along its side edges, and with two or more intermediate corrugations f<1> having their sides inclined similarly to the flanges f. Each sheet is preferably slightly tapered from end to end, and the corrugations f<1> are correspondingly tapered to allow interfitting of adjacent sheets end to end. The sheets are jointed side by side by the cover strips G having inclined flanges g which fit over the edge flanges f; the strips G are tapered to correspond with the taper of the sheets. The sheet may be modified by forming an integral cover strip G at one edge, as shown in Fig. 8, or at both edges, and in these cases a separate cover strip is unnecessary ; the intermediate corrugations f<1> may be dispensed with, and, if desired, replaced by a single rounded corrugation. The fixing-bolt H is shown in Figs. 12 and 13 with the clamping-plate H<1> having inclined sides h disposed in engagement with the intermediate corrugations f<1> of two overlapping sheets ; this arrangement is additional to the use of the bolts and clamping-plates at the side joint edges. The clamping-plate is shown in Figs. 12 and 13 with the inclined portions h of two different widths so as to engage the corrugations of both sheets at the joint. The bolt H passes through either an angle-iron j, which is fitted to a metal purlin J, or the head of a screw which enters a wooden purlin. The sheets shown in Fig. 18 are of corrugated form, and the cover strip comprises a corrugated under member G4 which fits over the edges of adjacent sheets and is cemented to an upper member G. The bolt H engages in a slot g<4> in the member G<4> and is fitted with the clamping-plate H<1>. The Provisional Specification describes also the formation of an integral cover strip on one or both sheets at the joint with one side only disposed at an acute angle to the sheet, and, instead of using a separate clamping-plate on the bolt, the head of the bolt is provided with inclined sides to effect the desired wedging action at the joint.
