Abstract
492,381. Dies for moulding framelike articles. ASHDOWN (BIRMING- HAM), Ltd., H. E., and SNELL, A. G. March 16, 1937, No. 7666. [Class 87 (ii)] In dies for moulding frame-like articles consisting of a rim bounding a central space from thermoplastic material such as that known under the Registered Trade Mark " Bakelite," a mould bottom 1 has a surface 2 foi forming the outer wall of the article and provides a free space 3 into which the article can shrink on withdrawal of a plunger 6. The moulding material is fed into a channel formed by the free space 3 and the hollow in the mould and the plunger 6 has a surface 5 for forming the whole inner wall 4 and a surface 7 adapted to fit into the space 3 and press material out of the space into the mould hollow. The provision of ejecting pins in the mould bottom is thus avoided. Where the mould has an outwardly-facing forming surface, as at 8, this is inclined upwardly and inwardly so that, on shrinkage, the article is lifted from the bottom.
