Abstract

492,252. Lathe &c. bar feeds. HERBERT, Ltd., A., and HEARD, F. G. April 5, 1938, No. 10365. [Class 83 (iii)] Stock-feed mechanism for a lathe &c., comprises a tubular member, Fig. 2, formed of hinged parts 11, 12 in which the stock and a pusher 16 therefor are carried, and which can be opened to allow of loading the stock. The hinged parts may be of wood to reduce noise and a groove 19 is provided along the side of the lower member in which a bent portion of the pusher engages to prevent the latter being displaced when the stock is being inserted. The pusher is connected by means of a flexible cord 24, Fig. 1, to a weight 23 passing over a pulley carried by a bracket on the outboard support 20 for the stock tube. The flexible cord terminates with a shackle 28, Fig. 2, the pin of which passes through a slot 29 in a lever 26 connected by a hinge pin 27 to the stock pusher. The shackle is shown in its normal position for feeding the stock but when moved to the other end of the slot in the lever 26 a projection 31 on the latter is pressed against the stock tube and movement of the pusher is thus prevented. Alternatively, the flexible cord could be given a twist around a pin on the lever arranged at the position of the slot-end 30 to produce the same effect.
