[Class 73] [Also in Groups XVI and XVII] In a machine for delivering paper, linen, or like strip or tape for applying to packages, the tape is fed from a roll through a slot in an approximately horizontal plate over a supporting-member projecting above the surface of the plate and facilitating the application of the tape to the package. The machine is actuated by a treadle or by a motor-driven shaft 12 connected by a belt with a pulley 16 integral with a smaller pulley 17 driving another pulley 19 through a belt 18 tensioned by means of a spring-pressed roller 14. A roller 20 fixed to the pulley 19 coacts with a roller 21 to feed the tape 22 to moisture or adhesive-applying rollers 25, 26 before it issues through the slot 28 in the top plate of the casing and over a roller 29 supporting it while it is being applied to a package. The roller 25 is driven from the roller 20 through gearing 23, 24. A tape-severing knife 13 connected by a lever 31 and link 32 to an operating-handle is held normally in inoperative position by the engagement of a notch 33 in the link 32 with the casing. When the link 32 is released to operate the knife, a stop 34 thereon moves the roller 14 away from the belt 18 to stop the drive of the feed-rollers 20, 21.
