Abstract

491,147. Compound sheet materials. BRITISH WAXED WRAPPINGS, Ltd., and BROWNE, R. J. Feb. 24, 1937, No. 5576. [Classes 96 and 140] Compound sheet material for wrapping fatty substances such as butter or margarine comprises at least two sheets of paper, that sheet which is to contact with the butter being of parchment or greaseproof paper, and a film or sheet opaque to light interposed between two of the sheets of paper, the layers being united by an inodorous wax or wax mixture and the outer surfaces being free from wax. The opaque film or sheet may be metal foil, a metallic coating on a constituent paper sheet, a layer of metal or other powder, or opaque paper such as is employed for wrapping photographic films or plates. Paraffin wax, synthetic waxes, chloronaphthalenes, beeswax, and ceresin are examples of waxes specified. The wax may be applied to the inner layer, the inner surfaces of the outer layers, or one side of the inner layer and one inner surface of an outer laver. The layers are united between unheated or heated rollers, immediately or after the wax has set. One roller may be covered with felt, rubber, or vulcanite. One or both outer surfaces may be coated with gelatin, albumen or other protein or a synthetic or natural resin. The compound sheet may be united with card for making containers.
