Abstract

<PICT:0490046/IV/1> In a fabric finishing machine in which the fabric is subjected to mechanical treatment and vapour is applied to the portion of fabric so treated, the box 12 applying the vapour is heated to a temperature sufficiently high to prevent any substantial condensation of vapour in the box. Other parts of the machine on which vapour could condense and get on to the fabric may be heated also. As shown in a pile raising and dressing machine, the vapour boxes 12, Fig. 1, are heated by gas flames 24, and the card covered raising cylinders are heated by internal electric heaters 28 supplied by current through slip-ring connections. Fig. 3 shows an internally heated bar 41 which is used in place of the rollers for dressing the pile. When the vapour is at a high temperature, the gas flames 24 may be used only at starting. Specifications 391,191 and 391,192, [both in Group VIII], are referred to.
