Abstract

489,622. Refrigerating. HOOVER HOLDING CO., Ltd. (Hoover Co.) Jan. 29, 1937, No. 2608. [Class 29] Absorption machines and systems.-Weak liquor is pumped from the generator B to the absorber A by a rotary pump comprising a casing D having liquor inlet and outlet pipes B<2>, B<3> respectively and a toothed-rotor G, Figs. 2, 3, mounted on a shaft driven by an electric motor F and disposed between fixed discs D<5>, D<6>. The disc D<6> is provided with a liquor inlet port J adjacent the lower edge of the rotor which discharges tangentially into the pipe B3. The pump casing and the inert gas pipe E<2> are connected by a vent pipe H and the liquor discharge and return pipes B<2>, A2 respectively of the generator are connected by a valved-pipe B<4> which permits strong liquor being recirculated through the absorber before its return to the generator. A fan A<5> driven by an electric motor A<3> circulates the inert gas between the evaporator and the absorber. In a modification, the toothedrotor is replaced by a disc having radial ribs on its opposite faces. In another arrangement, the pump consists of a flanged rotor N, Fig. 5, mounted in a casing having liquor inlet and outlet pipes P, Q respectively, the end N<1>, Fig. 6, of the outlet pipe being bent to form a scoop. The casing is provided with an auxiliary outlet pipe R<1> into which liquid collecting in the bottom of the casing is thrown by the rotor, the pipe R<1> being connected to the inlet pipe P. Fig. 8 shows a modified absorber having a rotary shaft carrying discs S, some of which feed the liquor into a gutter U which directs the liquor to the edge of a rotary pumping disc T which discharges through a port V, Fig. 9, into a pipe V<2> connected to the generator.
