Abstract

488,010. Saddles. SAVILLE, A., and MILLS, F. W. T. Jan. 14, 1938, No. 1350. [Class 136 (iii)] In a cycle &c. saddle of the type in which the top comprises a base-plate supported by coiled springs or other devices for absorbing vibration, the base-plate supporting a number of secondary coiled springs upon the upper ends of which the saddle cover is secured, the space between the base-plate and the cover is upholstered with a filling which encloses the secondary springs. A base-plate 3 of aluminium, leather, &c. is resiliently supported, e.g. by one front and two rear springs 6, from an underframe 8, and in turn supports a number of secondary springs 2 secured to a cover 1, the intervening space 11 being upholstered with horsehair, fibre, &c. The cover 1 is formed of felt and hessian, or of leather &c. A rectangular opening 5 is provided in the top for ventilation. The rear and sides of the cover 1 are extended downwards. The saddle may be of the usual triangular contour, or may be rectangular.
