Abstract
Compounds of the formula R-Hg-NH-R1 wherein R is hydrocarbon radical, and the group -NH-R1 is a monovalent organic residue in which a carbon atom of the radical R1 is directly attached to nitrogen, are prepared by the reaction of an organo-mercury compound (e.g. ethyl-mercury hydroxide or methyl-mercury sulphate) with urea, a cyanamide, aryl and alkyl disubstituted guanidines, aryl and alkyl amines, thiourea, substituted ureas and similar compounds. In the examples, (1) a concentrated solution of ethyl mercury hydroxide is added to a saturated solution of urea to yield the compound C2H5.Hg.NH: CONH2; (2) a solution of calcium cyanamide is mixed with precipitated calcium sulphate and a solution of methyl-mercury sulphate is added, a compound CH3.Hg.NHCN being produced in admixture with calcium sulphate.ALSO:Compositions for controlling fungus diseases of seeds comprise a mercury compound of the general formula R-Hg-NH-R1, wherein R is an unsubstituted hydrocarbon radical, and the group -NH-R1 is a monovalent organic residue, in which a carbon atom of the radical R1 is directly attached to nitrogen. The compounds are prepared by the reaction of an organo-mercury compound (e.g. ethyl-mercury hydroxide or methyl-mercury sulphate) with urea, a cyanamide, aryl and alkyl disubstituted guanidines, aryl and alkyl amines, thiourea, substituted ureas and the like. Examples: (1) a concentrated solution of ethyl mercury hydroxide is added to a saturated solution of urea giving a precipitate of crystals of C2H5.Hg. NH.CONH2. This is ground with 100 times its weight of clay; (2) a solution of calcium cyanamide is mixed with precipitated calcium sulphate and a solution of methyl-mercury sulphate is added, a compound CH3.Hg.NHCN being produced in admixture with calcium sulphate. From 0,1 per cent up to 6,0 or 8,0 per cent of the mercury compound may be present in the composition.
