Abstract

486,063. Cathode-ray tubes. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN. June 12, 1937, No. 16388. Convention date, June 15, 1936. [Class 39 (i)] A cathode-ray tube is provided with an electrostatic lens system comprising three or more tubular metal members surrounding the beam and mounted one behind the other with a small intermediate space, the adjacent end surfaces of each two successive members having the shape of equal flat annuli normal to the tube axis, whose radial width is at least equal to the distance between the surfaces, this distance being equal to or smaller than the internal diameter of the annuli. The lens system may consist of three tubular members 4 ... 6 of the shape shown, or they may be bobbin-shaped or hollow members with annular end faces. The cathode comprises a bifilar heating wire 10 on a support 11 surrounded by a cylinder 12, the closed end of which is coated with emissive material. The control electrode 13 is in the form of an apertured cylindrical member and the first anode 14 is an apertured disc connected to the electrode 5 and operated at 200 volts with respect to the cathode. The electrodes 4, 6 are connected together and operated at 500 volts with respect to the cathode. Suitable dimensions for the electrodes 4 .. 6 are given in the Specification and the electrode 6 may be provided with an apertured end diaphragm 15.
