Abstract

<PICT:0485866/IV/1> <PICT:0485866/IV/2> <PICT:0485866/IV/3> <PICT:0485866/IV/4> <PICT:0485866/IV/5> <PICT:0485866/IV/6> The invention relates to apparatus for dyeing, bleaching, wet processing and similar operations applied to textile fabrics and fibres of all kinds in which yarn 40, Fig. 4, is arranged on perforated tubular supports such as 35 within a vat A, Fig. 3, where liquor is circulated in alternate directions through the mass by continuous vacuum. The invention is characterized by the use of an auxiliary feed-on tank 60, Fig. 1, for containing dyestuffs &c. before transfer to the treating vat A, the auxiliary tank being connected to an expansion tank B which with another similar tank C is connected to vacuum making and breaking means G, Fig. 2. One of the expansion tanks is connected by conduit to the space in the heating vat surrounding the yarns and the other to the interior of the tubular supports so that dyestuffs &c. before being delivered through the treating vat are sucked into the first expansion tank from the feed-on tank and subsequently discharged with a filter or mixer to the treating vat. A tank A, Fig. 3, receives textile material 40 preferably wound upon spindles, bobbins, or cones. In operation, spools 40 are locked in place by wing nuts 44 and a cover 16 is clamped in place by a latch 22 and nut 24. Treating liquid is caused to flow from the tank B, Fig. 2, into a base structure 31 to spindles 35, Fig. 4, and radially outwardly through the textile material to a connection 57 leading to the expansion tank C. In the reverse operation, liquid is caused to flow from the tank C radially inwardly through the material 40 to the expansion tank B. The yarn may be treated this way in dyeing, sizing, finishing, degumming, washing, desulphurizing, and so forth. Tank B is provided with filling means 60, Fig. 1, and a filter 60a for treatment solutions. Header pipes 62, 63 extend upwardly from the tanks at least 33 to 34 feet to counteract vacuum. The pipes connect to valves E, F, by which the tanks are alternately connected to vacuum or air. The valves E, F, Fig. 5, comprise reciprocating discs 80, 81 shown opening the pipe 62 to air and cutting off vacuum from the line 74. The valves are actuated by a weighted bar 101 pivoted at 100. The bar 101 is actuated by a pin 116, Fig. 7, on a rotating disc 119 worm actuated. Adjustable screws 109, 110 on a quadrant 106 contacting with surfaces 114 regulate the length of periods during which vacuum is supplied to each of the tanks B, C. A shaft carrying a worm 123 engaging the disc 119 is driven off an electric motor (not shown). Two vacuum lines 74 united in a single line 131, Fig. 2, leads to the vacuum tank D. In one modification, two treating tanks are each provided with two expansion tanks with suitable connecting pipes. In another modification, two pumps are provided to operate on vacuum tanks connected together and provided with hand valves. Two sets of control valves are provided. U.S.A. Specification 1,706,827 is referred to.
