Abstract

485,577. Photographic sensitive materials; colour photography. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP DE BATAAFSCHE PETROLEUM MAATSCHAPPIJ. Nov. 18, 1936, No. 31638. Convention date, Oct. 21. [Class 98 (ii)] Light-sensitive photographic material for the production of coloured images comprises a compound of the general formula R1(R2)NCO.COOMe in which R1 is an organic radicle containing a chromophore group, R2 is hydrogen or an organic radicle and Me is hydrogen or a metal. The metal may be silver, chromium, iron, mercury, or one of the alkali metals, or ammonium. Suitable compounds are the salts of oxamic acid, e.g. of o-nitro oxanilic acid. After exposure the metal is removed by a solvent, e.g. potassium cyanide in the case of silver or mercury, or water in the case of the alkali metals. The compounds may be formed into emulsions and several emulsions for different colours may be superimposed. The layers may also be treated with sensitizing dyes. The resulting images may be intensified, e.g. by diazotizing and coupling with an azo component, or reduced, e.g. with a sulphite solution or a ferricyanide reducer. In examples, (1) the oxamine derivative of mononitro-benzidine in gelatin solution is mixed with thiosinamine and silver nitrate and applied to paper. After exposure the paper is treated with ammonium persulphate and potassium cyanide giving a red image ; (2) the silver salt of 6 : 6<1>-dinitro-o-tolidine-dioxamic acid in gelatin is applied to paper. After exposure the material is treated with potassium cyanide giving a red picture; (3) the silver salt of 2 : 21-dinitro-benzidine-dioxamic acid is used as in example (2) to give a yellow picture ; (4) the silver salt of o- or p-nitrooxanilic acid is used as in example (2) ; (5) the ammonium salt of 2 : 2<1>-dinitro-benzidinedioxamic acid is applied to paper, exposed and washed with water giving a yellow picture. The anion part of the molecule may also form a body readily convertible into a dye.
