[Classes 39 (i) and 40 (iii)] An iconoscope screen 1 has a metal-coated marginal electrode 7a, 7b maintained at a suitable potential from a source 9, so that when the scanning cathode-ray beam 2 impinges on it at the end of each line and each picture, a synchronizing signal is developed. The electrode 7a, 7b is preferably coupled capacitively to the same counter-electrode as the mosaic screen 1, and a single amplifier 6 is used for both the picture and synchronizing signals. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91, synchronizing signals are developed by applying the deflecting potential to an amplitude filter 12, Fig. 2 (Cancelled), which is biassed to conduct only at the peaks of the deflecting oscillations. The pulses so obtained are applied over transformer 14, tuned to the synchronizing frequency, and through a rectifier 15 to the grid of the picture signal amplifier 6. When electromagnetic deflection is employed, the amplitude filter is connected in parallel to the deflecting coils, or to a resistance in series with the deflecting coils. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
