Abstract
The resistance of artificial zeolites comprising alkali metal alumino-silicate gels to the dissolving effect of corrosive waters is increased by freezing the gel, thawing it and removing the mother liquor, and treating the granules with a sodium silicate solution, whereafter the gel is dried at temperatures up to 150 DEG C. to a moisture content of not less than 30 per cent. The granules may be treated after drying or while still moist, and washing of the treated granules may be effected before or after drying. A second silicate treatment may follow initial drying. A water solution of a silicate, stannate, tungstate, dichromate, molybdate, zincate, or sulphate of the alkali metals, ammonia, aluminium and divalent iron may be used as the treating solution.
