Abstract

484,461. Suturing-appliances. NORDHOLT, A. E. Dec. 14, 1937, No. 34524. [Class 81 (ii)] An instrument for tying a knot in a suture thread, consists of a handle or casing 1 for the suture material 3 and a curved and tapering guide 8 of tubular form so that a loop formed around it by the suture or by a flexible cord 10 having a running loop formed at one end, slips off easilv to form a knot. The suture thread may be held by a clamping device consisting of two wedge shaped bodies 5 and 6 or by plates pressed together by a spring. In operation the suture thread is drawn through the flesh and then either it or the flexible cord attached to it is looped round the guide. The clamping device is operated and the loop slips off the guide forming a knot. In a modification, Figure 4, the needle is formed at the end of a flexible band slidably located in a slotted rib 14 on the guide. In the retracted position the point of the needle 18 does not extend beyond the end of the guide which is closed, while the eye is opposite a lateral aperture 19 of the guide, through which the suture thread is passed.
