Abstract

483,286. Delivering measured quantities of powder or paste. MANDLE, H. H. Oct. 13, 1936, No. 27797. [Class 106 (v)] Apparatus for delivering measured quantities of a powder or paste from a container 1, comprises a rotary disc 6 formed with measuring apertures which during the rotation of the disc move through the container and then between closely fitting plates 5, 27 to a discharge station 16 which is provided with selectively operable means adapted to discharge the material from one or more apertures. The base of the container is formed by the plate 5 having a recess for the disc 6 so that the upper surface of the disc is flush with that of the plate. At the discharge station the disc projects into a rotary block 19. The disc is formed with a number of series of radially arranged measuring apertures of different sizes and the block 19 is formed with passages corresponding to any one or any combination of apertures of one radial series. Each passage in the block houses a spring or gravity operated ball for discharging a corresponding aperture. By selectively rotating the block by means of a plate 21 different sized apertures or various combinations of apertures may be discharged and the quantity of material delivered varied. Discharge may be assisted by compressed gas supplied through a bore 22 in the shaft 20 of the block. The apparatus is intended more particularly for the delivery of lubricant to metal powder or other material passing to a pulverizing mechanism or polishing drum and to this end the passage of the metal powder or other material through a conduit may be controlled by a rotary vaned wheel to which the measured quantities of lubricant are also delivered, the wheel and the disc 6 being driven at the desired relative speeds from a common driving shaft. The conduit leading the metal powder or the like to the feeding wheel may be provided with a branch conduit leading to a sampling container.
