482,747. Nonconducting coverings for heat and sound. RICHARDSON, G. Oct. 1, 1936, Nos. 26679/36, 29373/37, (divided out of the first Provisional Specification), and 29348/37. [Class 64 (ii)] Heat insulation comprising a thin sheet of heat reflecting material having a metallic surface is spaced parallel to the surface to be insulated or to an adjacent similar sheet by means of a corrugated sheet of metal of foillike thinness secured thereto. Either or both the plane and corrugated sheets may consist of aluminium foil of 0À05 to 0À1 mm. gauge. The sheets may be secured together by means of adhesive or by metal wire or pins, such as staples 4 which secure plane and corrugated sheets 1, 3 of the type specified. In a modification of the invention, the corrugated sheet is provided with transverse projections such as ribbing 5, Fig. 5. A unit comprising plane sheets 7, 8, 7, Fig. 6, and corrugated sheets 9, 9 transverse to each other may be strengthened to form a panel by securing to the bent-up ends 10 of the outer sheets side frames 6 of aluminium or strawboard which may be of thicker gauge than the sheets of the unit. Further rigidity may be imparted by ribs 12, 13. The panel may be encased in a waterproof wrapping such as bitumen paper or aluminium foil. Sheets of fibrous material may be interposed between the elements. The plane sheets may comprise metallized cardboard or paper. Specification 459,574 is referred to.
